Orquesta Típica Proyecto Pichuco - Hommage à Aníbal Troilo (Europe)

Preparations have been underway for more than two years for this unique project that bandoneonist Michael Dolak put together by the most renowned European tango musicians specifically for the PHANTASTango! birthday! We are looking forward to a gigantic and unique orchestra that will be opening of our anniversary camp!

"Aníbal Troilo (1914-1975) played the bandoneón with so much emotion that he was revered as the most expressive player of this instrument. In 1937 he founded his own orchestra, which quickly established itself as one of the largest in the golden age of tango. The hallmarks of this orchestra were its lively sound, its ability to convey lyricism and the colors and shades in its music, which Troilo (nicknamed "Pichuco") and his musicians increasingly explored in the 1940s. He knew how to combine musical excellence, danceable rhythm and interpretative depth in a virtuoso way. Troilo is tango in its purest form, the great reference for how tango is played.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death, 14 of the most renowned European tango musicians will come together to form the "Proyecto Pichuco" to pay tribute to Aníbal Troilo with a very special tribute: After years of research, 28 original arrangements by his orchestra were found, which he never recorded and all of which will be heard this evening. This is not the only reason why the performance of this multinational ensemble promises to be a unique and unforgettable experience."

Tuesday 22.7.2025 10 pm - 5am Half Time Ball
Quadro Nuevo  (Germany)

Melodies from distant worlds, tango, Aegean mythical sounds, oriental grooves, daring improvisations and travel songs along a sunlit coastal road, swing, ballads and Mediterranean lightness condense into fairytale-like musical fables.

These tell of the vagabond life, the experiences and encounters on the great journey of life, the small coincidences and the great moments, of tenderness and wild temperament, always driven between eastern and western winds, between consuming longing and pleasurable fulfillment - between the bitter and the sweet.

The spirited, full-blooded musicians have been touring the countries of the world since 1996 and have given around 4,000 concerts to date. They have performed their songs from Bavaria to Bari, across the Balkans through the Middle East to Cairo, from Buenos Aires to Hong Kong. The performance venues are as varied as the roots of their music: the ensemble not only performs at festivals and in renowned concert halls such as New York's Carnegie Hall. The virtuosos, who are addicted to playing, also travel as street musicians through the Mediterranean south and invite people to dance as a nightly tango band.

When we tiried to bring Quadro Nuevo to PHANTASTango! for the first time, unfortunately the pandemic got in the way. We are all the more pleased that it will now work out for our anniversary camp!

Saturday 2.7.2025 10 pm - 5am Farewell Ball
DeLeones Tango Orquesta (France)

When the PHANTASTango! cockpit attended the La Locura Tango Festival last year to meet new musicians, our favorite quickly became clear among many great orchestras! That's why we are absolutely happy that DeLeones, an extremely young and energetic orchestra, will be highlighting the final night of our anniversary camp!

"Power, vitality, exigency and sensitivity characterize the work of the DeLeones Tango Orquesta. With ten musicians (piano, double bass, three violins, viola, cello, three bandoneons), they will take you back a few decades, to a black and white Buenos Aires, where Tango, born from the pavement and the suburbs, has conquered the world.

Based on the models of the great Tango orchestras of the 1940s and 1950s, the ensemble performs Tangos by the fundamental composers of the Golden Age. Thanks to its own identity, and by rigorously relying on the musical heritage of the Argentinean dialect, the orchestra will shake the audience with the sounds of its marcatos. Combining popular, precise and contemporary energy, the DeLeones Tango Orquesta will appeal to both neophytes and Tango aficionados."
