Cristina & Homer Ladas (San Francisco)

Between 2008 and 2017, Cristina & Homer have been guests at PHANTASTango! five times - and not without reason: They are our undisputed favorites - excellent dancers, brilliant teachers and charismatic personalities! We are so exited that they will be joining us for our 20th PHANTASTango! anniversary, even though they have drastically reduced their international travel in recent years!

Cristina & Homer are visiting PHANTASTango! for the 5th time and that is for a good reason: They are simply our most favourite teachers! They are excellent dancers, brilliant teachers and charismatic personalities.

For Homer & Cristina Tango is a vivid, social and artistic form which derives from historic roots and is in permanent development adjusting itself to to as well as formed by the environment. No individual or group owns the tango. Their vision is a borderfree Tango world in which we respect and learn from the past, live in the present, and let the future unfold.

We each dance our own style, even though stereotyped thinking wants to make us believe otherwise. All dancers go through beginner, intermediate, and advanced stages of navigation skill. There are four branches of tango awareness:  Self, Partner, Music, Surroundings. A measure of one's tango success is how well his/her style can adapt socially to other dancers. And last but not least the life-cycle of a tango dancer includes student, Ego, apathy, and often times repeats...

Homer & Cristina have been providing comprehensive video material, as well as filmed teaching session wich are available online and on DVD.

Besides tango, their second great love has been aerial acrobatics for many years. That's why they will of course also be taking part in our circus project and taking aerial acrobatics under their wing!

Analia Vega & Marcelo Varela (Buenos Aires)

Analia & Marcelo were our guests in 2019 in the last camp before the "Giant Cortina" - and we immediately took them to our hearts. Because if there is such a thing as the "PHANTASTango!" idea - in dance, in joy, in human togetherness - then these two certainly felt and shared it right away!

What can we say about these two? Well you have to see them dance to know how powerful and influential they are. Their tango style reveals the mastery of the improvisation matching the expression of the music. Joy, dynamics and intensity characterize her dance. Marcelo's virtuoso combinations are supported by Analia's openness and strength.

They have more than two decades of experience working in the dance, transmitting and enjoying this universal language of Tango. Their empathetic and uncomplicated instruction allows the students to find their way to improvisation.

They are dancers, teachers and choreographers of Argentine Tango and Folklore. They have enriched their dance with other activities such as Theater, Ballet, Contemporary dance and Music, with constant research and investigation.

They were dancers not only in Alan Parker's film "Evita" in 1996, but also in shows such as "Sensual Tango Review" USA / Canada 1994, "Forever Tango" USA / Canada 1994-1998, "La Catedral del Tango" BS .AS 1999, "Tango Love & Sex" BS.AS. 2004, "Tango Review" 2014, "American Romanian Festival" Italy 2014.
On tour through the USA, Europe and Japan, they have participated at numerous festivals as teachers and show dancers. In Buenos Aires they give seminars and exhibitions in milongas with outstanding orchestras such as "Color Tango", "Los Cosos de al Lado" and many others.

Natalia Agüero & Agustin Venturino (Brugge)

Natalia & Agustin were supposed to be with us as teachers in 2020 - unfortunately the "Giant Cortina" got in the way, so it took until 2002 before we could finally welcome them.

From the new Argentine couples, Natalia and Agustin are among the ones that had grown the fastest in the last years. In less than three years, they had participated in more than 87 tango events, in ten countries from America to Europe. Even during their first year European tour, they were called to dance at a Dutch Royalty Award, the "Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Prijs 2016", in the presence of Queen Maxima of The Netherlands.

They began their international journey in 2016, after 13 years of local experience and 10 years of intense researches about tango, its history, its dance, culture, testimony and chats with milongueros. They have also specialized in body language and dance teaching techniques and done studies in the Tango university career at the Art University of Buenos Aires.

Abroad, they have quickly achieved a great recognition thanks to the extraordinary classes where they mix culture, art, history, musicality, dance and technique, getting to transfer highly tango rooted knowledge, without even using figures or sequences.
Their strong studies and works in social integration are many times blend into the milongas and events where they participate. Introducing exercises that leads participants to live a special experience, bringing them closer together to each other, while generating a splendid milonga atmosphere.
Finally, from requests of the most curious students, they have begun to hold lectures where they transfer what they had studied, their researches and talks with milongueros, showing evidence of evolution in tango music and how that affected the dance.
This became their inspiration to start producing audiovisual tango projects that they share through YouTube / Facebook, helping and inspiring dancers and DJ to continue evolving.

Having the opportunity to experience them in person, not only offers the possibility of living a unique and different experience, but also allows you to live the energy, freshness, enthusiasm and personalized treatment of a couple who seek you to learn, have fun, evolve, get inspired and live an unforgettable experience.

Sabine Zubarik & John-Michael Mendizza (Erfurt)

Sabine Zubarik and John-Michael Mendizza teach together at the Tango Argentino e.V. association in Erfurt, their common home base, as well as at other places as guest teachers. Both work as DJs at various events. John-Michael is also active as a tango-photographer. Sabine participated in Phantastango from the first year on and ever since; she joined the teachers' team already in 2007. John-Michael took part for the first time in 2009 and has been teaching the beginners’ courses together with Sabine since 2013.

Sabine encountered tango in Argentina, in 2005, during a guest lectureship in Córdoba, and fell in love with it. Since then, she travelled to Buenos Aires many times, completed a tango teacher training and has been teaching tango on a part time basis for many years. Her main interests are didactics and methodology: From 2010 on, she organized the yearly German TangoTeacherMeeting in Erfurt and taught courses for teachers. Over several years, she also researched tango academically and wrote articles for the magazine Tangodanza.

John-Michael, born in California, started dancing tango in 2008 in Santa Barbara. He moved to Thuringia, Germany, in 2010. In the following years, he first assisted in the association Tango Argentino e.V. and later became a crucial part of the teaching team. He is a goldsmith as his main profession. If he doesn't spend his free time with tango, he practices his other passion: photography.

John-Michael and Sabine met 2008 in Santa Barbara and have been dancing together ever since; they got married in 2011. They teach all levels from beginners to advanced, close embrace as well as open style, and they try to convey a good sense for musicality and spatial direction by using manageable steps and combinations. Their goal is to pass on a healthy basis of tango to people of all age groups, physical condition, experience and background, so that from the first moment on they can have fun dancing and take part in milongas. Although they like to teach all levels, their hearts belong to the beginners’ courses with the sometimes courageous and curious, sometimes shy newcomers who remind us that we all once started - and how exciting that was!
